GLOBALIZATION AND YOU

"Where do I as an individual fit into the global competition and opportunities of today?" Try to answer Friedman's question by looking at the requirements, chances, and dangers, that globalization mean for YOU.
What must a young "globalized citizen" be able to do to be "successful"?

  1. In our everyday life we are often concerned with the globalization. We have the requirement to get all things on the world we want to have. An i-pod from China, petrol from the Arabic States or coffee from Brazil. And also a very important thing of the present is the internet which everyone of us uses almost every day. These things only work with globalization. There are chances which are brought to us with gloablization. And all these requirements we have advance our living standart. We have more opportunities and more choices. But there can also arise probelms. Outsourcing into other countries can be at one's own expense. Every day man people in Germany loose there jobs because there´s outsourcing. Or we buy a electronic product from anywhere, it has no high quality and an electric shock can badly hurt us. The swine flu was brought into Germany by people who worked in Mexiko for german companies.
I think you can´t life wihout globalization, but you have to be very cautious.

  2. As a consumer, i contribute by purchasing good and products that are both imported and produced locally. its not a big contribution in and of itself, but as a whole, it makes up the society.

  3. I see Johannes' points and I think that's one way how globalization affects us. But I think there are other facts as well. And the most important is the eductaion and the school system. We are prepared to live in a world of globalization and we also learn about the facts that for example we need to speak at least two spoken languages to be succesful in our job later. Sometimes, it is also necessary not to look for the others because otherwise you won't get what you want. But that's the problem of capitalism, I think.

  4. As Johannes said we do have to be careful with globalization. The US got he swine flu brought from Mexico too. But it was from a lot of people going to visit family over break or just visiting and it could've been from people working for companies. The Swine flu became a big problem in the US and is starting to spread out. I as an individual fit into the global competition and opportunities today by jus purchasing the Products here in the US that are not local. I don't know what u have to do to be successful in a globalized economy.....it's hard to be successful as it is

  5. I agree with Johannes and Cyndi. I think everybody as an individuals gets involved with globalization. It's good to have more option and choice for our wants and needs, especially when it comes a way of saving money. Since the economy is not as good now, and everybody tries to save money to buy something that's cheaper.

And i do agree with Johannes and Marisa that we have to be careful with globalization. If someone is infected and brought into our country, how can we prevent this from happening? What else do we have to do to watch out for this or be prepare for it?
